Activities
The Journal provides information across a variety of industries on state-of-the-art technologies and regularly prepares special issues that focus on specific topics of current interest. It also serves to promote communication among the members.
Transactions publishes three volumes of original research papers every month. It has earned an esteemed reputation throughout Japan's engineering community.
JSME International journal publishes papers screened by a multinational team of editors. It is published in three series (each published quarterly). Subscribers can choose one, two, or all three series.

The Society has produced many other publications, including handbooks, data compilations, and JSME Standards.
Of particular note is the Mechanical Engineering Handbook, which has been an indispensable guide to all
types of engineers for more than half a century. In addition, more than 70 books have been produced for the Society
by other publishers.
The Society's various divisions and branches sponsor or co-sponsor a diverse range of meetings at locations throughout Japan. The divisions also hold international and intersociety conferences, in cooperation with other domestic or overseas societies.
The Society has established 20 divisions to promote its research activities. Through conferences, symposiums, and annual meetings, members are accorded ample opportunity to publish their research results.
In order to meet members' insatiable demand for information on new fields and emerging technologies, the Society conducts numerous educational programs throughout the country, including short courses and seminars.
All branches have a Students' Section to foster communication and friendship among the student members. The students, who will manage and support the JSME in the future, join the Society after learning of it through conferences on publishing graduation theses, technical tours, and other sources.
Meetings are held for people working in non-scientific or technological fields and provide information on what
is happening at the frontiers of science and technology.
The Society conducts research activities, as follows, through its divisions, committees, and research groups.
To encourage research activities and the development of mechanical engineering, the Society has since 1957 awarded JSME Medals to the best papers in each field and for developing new technologies or machines. Furthermore, the JSME Distinguished Engineers Award is granted to those whose achievements have been recognized as outstanding. Also, JSME Awards for Young Engineers are presented to a number of excellent young engineers.
The Society promotes joint activities and the exchange of information with engineering societies of other countries.
These activities are conducted by the International Activities Board and the divisions. The JSME has signed an
Agreement of Cooperation with ten overseas societies.
