22:12:31 JST > > Dear World Council of Biomechanics Colleagues > We thought that it might be an opportune time to provide a latest update on planning for the WCB2018 meeting in Dublin before people break for summer vacation. Firstly, we have now finalised dates for the meeting which will take place from Sunday July 8- Thursday July 12 in the Convention Centre Dublin. This dates were decided upon after much discussion with US colleagues as to the most appropriate dates taking into account the July 4th holiday and with international colleagues taking into account summer vacations. We would highly encourage all delegates to consider a vacation in Ireland around the time of the conference- weather can never be guaranteed in Ireland but July is usually nice. > > As we previously announced, your World Council colleague, Prof. Tim McGloughlin has agreed to act as Secretary for the meeting. Tim has been actively involved in the world biomechanics community for many years and is now Chair of Biomedical Engineering in Khalifa University of Science, Technology & Research (KUSTAR) in Abu Dhabi which provides a unique opportunity to expand the geographic footprint for the meeting. > > We are also very pleased to announce the Program Co-chairs for the meeting, your World Council colleague, Prof. David Vorp, William Kepler Whiteford Professor of Bioengineering in the University of Pittsburgh and Prof. Damien Lacroix, Chair in Biomedical Engineering in the University of Sheffield. The partnership provided by David and Damien offers great scientific and geographical scope for the meeting and we are delighted to have them on board. The planning for an outstanding scientific programme for the conference will now really begin in earnest. > > Ireland is well known for its hospitality so a quality social programme for the meeting is something that is very important to us. Details are being finalised but we anticipate having a major gala event in the home of Guinness, the Guinness Storehouse, which offers stunning views over the city. In addition, building on the their every growing reputation, and huge success from WCB2014, we are planning to have BEDrock perform at WCB2018. > > Further updates on the meeting will be provided as we expand the website, WCB2018.com and also on Twitter - @WCB2018. Danny and I are both attending the SB3C meeting in Utah next week so hopefully we will get to meet with many of you there or at other biomechanics event over the coming months. We also attach some powerpoint banners for the meeting and an email signature and we would encourage you to use these to help spread the word to the biomechanics community across the Globe. > > Thanks for your support to date. > > Best wishes > > Fergal and Danny, > Co-Chairs WCB2018
