I am writing to invite your students to participate in EMedIC Global 2018. Kindly forward this to your colleagues and students as you see fit. The Engineering Medical Innovation Global Competition (EMedIC Global) is an annual global challenge in which teams of university students design and develop clinically-driven and client-centered engineering innovations for the future of medicine & healthcare. The first EMedIC Global was hosted by The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in August 2016. The second EMedIC Global was hosted by The National Taiwan University in Taipei in September 2017. Both events were highly successful. We are pleased that CUHK will host the next EMedIC Global on 16-18 August 2018. The event website is at www.emedicglobal.org and is ready to pre-register your students' interest and their later submissions. The deadline is 28 February 2018. Eligibility All participants should be current university students or graduates within two years at the time of submitting their work to EMedIC Global. Participants are expected to compete in teams. Each team could include both undergraduates and postgraduates, and should have at least half of its members being undergraduates. Submission Submission is to be made electronically through the EMedIC Global 2018 website and must include (1) a 5-min video, (2) a poster, and (3) a letter of certification by the faculty advisor. Instructions on submission will be provided to teams after Pre-Registration. Supports (Travel Scholarships & Local Accommodation) Non-Hong Kong finalists can apply for travel scholarships up to USD 1,000 per team, depending on the location of their home university. During the contest, CUHK will provide non-Hong Kong finalists 3 nights of on-campus dormitory-type accommodation for up to 4 contestants plus 1 faculty advisor for each finalist team. Judging Criteria Submissions are to be screened by an international judging panel to select the finalist teams. Judges will consist of clinical practitioners, engineers and industrialists. Four evaluation criteria, namely (1) novelty, (2) technical challenge, (3) clinical impact & translational readiness, and (4) presentation will be used to assess the entries. Please do not hesitate to let me know if you or your colleagues/ students need any additional information. Look forward to your kind support.
