MECHANICAL ENGINEERING HERITAGE NO.126
Pioneer of Export to USA, NC Lathe MAZAK Turning Center 2500R
This machine, manufactured in 1970 (Showa 45), was the first domestic NC machine model to be exported to the United States. The NC controller uses a FANUC 240 and an electric/hydraulic pulse motor, and it operates by reading the NC program on a paper tape. The minimum command unit is 0.01 mm, and contour control is also possible. The machine was acquired from the U.S. in 2008 (Heisei 20), and its main body and control unit have been reconditioned by skilled workers and are now on dynamic display at The Yamazaki Mazak Museum of Machine Tools. The machine is also valuable as a medium for machine technology education, aiding in the learning of the principles and structure of NC machine tools.
