MECHANICAL ENGINEERING HERITAGE NO.102

NARA Jiyu Mill (High-speed Impact Mill, First Milling Machine Manufactured in Japan)

This was the first machine to be commercialized in 1927 after the development of the "impact shear pulverizer" prototype in 1925 by Jiyuzo Nara, who was the founder of Nara Shoten Co., Ltd. (now Nara Machinery Co., Ltd.), and its repeated improvements.
The free pulverizer crushes raw material through strong impact and shear force on two impact columns: a high-speed rotating disk and a fixed disk. This mechanism suppresses the generation of heat and enables a rapid rate and a large amount of powder processing; hence, it has become widely used in the processing of materials such as minerals, herbs, foodstuffs, dyes, and feed.
