Dynamics, Measurement and Control Division hosted the 19th International Symposium on Magnetic Bearings (ISMB19) in Otsu, Shiga, Japan from August 19 to 22, 2025. ISMB19 aimed to provide an opportunity to understand the latest global research and development trends in magnetic bearings and magnetic levitation technology, and to promote further advancements and practical applications.
Magnetic bearings and magnetic levitation technology offer advantages such as no lubrication, no maintenance, high-speed rotation, low vibration, and low noise, and are being applied in various industries. They are recognized as one of the key technologies for achieving the SDGs and a zero-carbon society.
The special issue of Mechanical Engineering Journal, entitled "Recent Advances in Magnetic Bearings and Magnetic Levitation Technology", is planned to widely disseminate the usefulness of magnetic bearings and magnetic levitation technology both domestically and internationally. We are soliciting submissions of papers presented at ISMB19. Submitted papers will undergo the JSME peer-review process and be published in the journal.

Recent Progress in Research on Mechanics of Materials and Computational Mechanics by Young Researchers

In today’s rapidly evolving field of mechanical engineering, active research and innovative ideas from young researchers are highly expected. To support this, the 2025 M&M/CMD Symposium for Young Researchers is held from August 27 to 29, 2025, in Nagoya, Aichi, Japan, organized by the Materials & Mechanics and Computational Mechanics Divisions. The special issue entitled “Recent Progress in Research on Mechanics of Materials and Computational Mechanics by Young Researchers” invites submissions based on presentations given at the above-mentioned symposium. A wide range of research topics will be considered, including but not limited to mechanics of materials such as solid mechanics, fatigue, fracture, mechanical property evaluation, and experimental/numerical approaches to both conventional and advanced materials, as well as computational mechanics including thermal analysis, fluid analysis, optimization methods, and multiscale analysis. All submitted manuscripts will undergo the standard peer-review process before publication.

Recent Advances in Materials and Processing 2025

Vol.13 No.4 (August 15,2026)
Submission starting date: November 3, 2025
Submission Deadline: January 18, 2026→ February 1, 2026
Note: Please select a Section/Category "Recent Advances in Materials and Processing 2025 (MEJ:SMM)" on Editorial Manager.

Service environment of materials is getting severer monotonously. In order to keep human society comfortable, conventional materials are replaced by higher performance materials or suitable materials are newly developed. The material processing technology is also growing rapidly. The conventional materials with the new processing technology can extend the allowable range of services and can find new service fields. On the other hand, sustainable procurement (or green procurement), as a public policy, must be considered seriously to select materials in industrial products. From these backgrounds, the 2nd JSME International Conference on Materials and Processing 2025 (ICM&P 2025) will be held from November 3 to 6, 2025, at Hilton HOTELS & RESORTS, Guam, USA as an international activity of the Materials and Processing (M&P) Division, JSME. This conference will be meaningful for many researchers and scientists to exchange their knowledge and experience with each other and to establish relationships for collaboration. The special issue of Mechanical Engineering Journal, entitled "Recent Advances in Materials and Processing", will welcome to be submitted by the authors who presented research works at the above conference. The submitted manuscript will be peer-reviewed again in accordance with the editorial policy of JSME.
